Self-help materials are designed for use by individuals to learn more about challenges they may face in daily life.
For Veterans
These materials can help you learn more about mental health conditions that you may have heard about or discussed with your health-care provider. The materials in this guide are not a substitute for direct mental health care. These materials can support and inform your regular care.
For family members and/or friends of Veterans
These materials can help you learn more about mental health conditions that you may have heard about or discussed with a Veteran in your life. These materials are not intended to replace direct health care. The materials in this guide can help you better understand and support the Veterans in your life.
For providers
You may want to direct Veterans to the materials in this guide so they can learn more about conditions you’ve discussed during care. You may also refer family or friends of Veterans to these resources to provide them additional information. These materials are intended to support to regular care.
Finding these materials
The materials in this guide are resources that VHA clinicians and researchers have found to be helpful for Veterans. Whenever possible, materials chosen for this guide were either free of cost or available through VA or local library services. In a few cases, the materials are only available commercially. If you want to learn more about those materials or how to find them, please discuss with your provider.
